The Department is responsible for both undergraduate and graduate medical education at the medical college and is clinically active on the Health Science Campus as well as the area's two key children's facilities: St. Vincent Mercy Children’s Hospital and Toledo Children’s Hospital. This position is an opportunity to be a part of a dedicated group of pediatricians focused on the health of children in Northwest Ohio and Southeastern Michigan.
The successful candidate is a physician-leader at the Assistant/Associate Professor level with a commitment to outstanding clinical care, resident and student education, and an interest in clinical research. BIOSTATISTICS POSITIONS

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) seek candidates for several positions in Biostatistics, including a Director of Biostatistics, a Senior Biostatistician and Master’s level Biostatisticians. The Program currently provides biostatistics and data management support for investigators in the Department of Pediatrics, the Arkansas Children's Hospital, and ACHRI.
Director of Biostatistics
The Director’s position will be at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor and is responsible for the daily oversight and scientific direction of the Biostatistics Program. This individual will supervise the faculty and staff of the of the Program, provide senior-level statistical and study design expertise for the development of grant applications and for ongoing studies, interact with clinical investigators on the design, implementation, and analysis of studies, pursue new opportunities for programmatic growth and research funding, and direct the recruitment of new staff for the program. Qualified candidates must have a have a Ph.D. in Biostatistics or Statistics, a minimum of seven to ten years experience in clinical research. The successful candidate should have a strong record of collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications, outstanding communications skills, strong and proven experience managing statisticians as well as leadership and team skills, and a professional orientation toward service. Senior Biostatistician
We are searching for a Senior Biostatistician to staff the expanding Biostatistics program in the department and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biostatistics or Statistics and have progressed to the rank of either Associate or Full Professor. A strong candidate is expected to have the ability to help develop a long-term vision for the program, to supervise and mentor junior faculty, and to actively participate in collaborative research with faculty and other investigators. The candidate should have a strong record of collaborative research, outstanding communication skills, and a strong record of leadership and team skills.
Biostatistician- Master’s Level
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Biostatistician will be responsible for providing statistical expertise in the design, evaluation, and analysis of research studies as well as in the presentation and publication of research findings. Qualified candidates must have an M.S. in Statistics or in Biostatistics, a minimum of 3 years experience in a clinical/biomedical research environment, and experience in major database and statistical software packages such as Microsoft Access, SAS, SPSS or STATA.

The Cardiology Division in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and The Heart Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital are seeking Board Eligible/Board Certified Pediatric Cardiologists focused in imaging, cardiac intensive care, heart failure and transplant cardiology, and electrophysiology to join our highly successful and busy program. Positions at both the assistant and associate professor level are available. Successful candidates will join a program known for its collegiality, diversity, and dedication to patient care, research, and education. The cardiac program at the Heart Center currently consists of 16 pediatric cardiologists, three cardiac intensivists, two pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, six pediatric anesthesiologists, one pediatric cardiac radiologist, pediatric cardiology fellows, cardiac intensive care fellows, and 11 advanced practice nurses.
The Arkansas Children’s Heart Center serves a six state region. Over 300 open heart surgeries, The Heart Center boasts a15 bed dedicated cardiac intensive care unit, a 16 bed telemetry unit, and two dedicated operating rooms. The surgical results achieved in the Heart Center are literally among the best in the world with greater than 98% overall hospital survival including a better than 98% hospital survival of Norwood stage 1 procedures. 170 children and adults with congenital heart disease have undergone heart transplantation at the Heart Center and the center has an active cardiac assist device program. Imaging facilities include two pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratories, transthoracic, transesophageal, and 3D echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and multi-slice computed tomography. Approximately 10,000 echocardiograms are read in our echocardiography laboratory, greater than 500 catheterizations are performed in our two dedicated pediatric catheterization laboratories, with 153 EP procedures performed annually by our electrophysiology service. The Arkansas Children’s Heart Center is located in the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The hospital has over 400 physician staff and approximately 10,000 admissions per year in its 290 inpatient beds. The Department of Pediatrics is seeking faculty candidates for Co-Director of the Title V Child Health Specialty Clinics (CHSC). CHSC is Iowa’s statewide program for children with special health care needs under the Maternal & Child Health Block Grant, Iowa Department of Public Health.

PEDIATRIC CRITICAL CARE INTENSIVIST

The Division of Critical Care in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking 3 additional Pediatric Intensivists, including Intensivists with special training in cardiac intensive care. The positions will be at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications. Requirements include board certification or eligibility in pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine. Successful candidates will have demonstrated interest and abilities in clinical care, education and academic activities.
These new faculty will join an existing group of 15 Intensivists in a 44-bed pediatric intensive care unit. This intensive care unit, located in Primary Children's Medical Center, admits over 2,000 children annually, including approximately 450 postoperative cardiac surgery patients. The division provides separate coverage of cardiac surgery patients from other PICU patients, within the same physical and nursing unit. There are active fellowship programs in pediatric critical care and pediatric cardiology. The division has a strong record of extramural funding and publication.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS CENTER DIRECTOR

The Department of Pediatrics, Pulmonary Medicine Section, of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine located at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, is seeking a Cystic Fibrosis Center Director. This position would be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the clinical-educator pathway. Potential applicants should hold an M.D. degree and board certification in pediatrics, internal medicine or family medicine. Board certification in pulmonary medicine or gastroenterology is recommended. In addition, qualified candidates should have at least 5 years post-residency and/or clinical experience in the care of cystic fibrosis patients. The position is available immediately, but the starting date is negotiable. The Pulmonary Medicine section provides care for approximately 3,235 outpatient visits, 6,588 inpatient care days, and performs 4,500 pulmonary function tests, 150 bronchoscopies, and 832 pediatric sleep studies/year. The Department has one of only 14 fully accredited Pediatric Sleep Medicine Centers in the USA. Unique research opportunities include, but are not limited to, research in childhood sleep disorders, infant pulmonary function testing, asthma, control of breathing and postnatal development of oxygen sensing. The Pediatric Pulmonary program includes bronchoscopy services, outstanding PFT laboratories and Respiratory Care services, a state-of-the-art infant PFT laboratory, a fully-accredited Pediatric Sleep Center, accredited pediatric pulmonary fellowship program, the only accredited CF Center in the state, a large home-ventilator program, and specialized clinics for asthma, BPD and pulmonary complications of neurological and neuromuscular disorders.

The UAMS Department of Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Pediatrics, is seeking candidates for a Developmental Pediatrician, or a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or Neurologist with a strong interest in Autistic Spectrum and other Developmental Disorders for the Schmieding Developmental Center at the Centers for Children in Lowell, Arkansas. The position would be at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. M.D. degree and board eligibility/board certification in Developmental Pediatrics is required. The position is available immediately. The Schmieding Developmental Center performs multidisciplinary team evaluations, testing and follow-up for patients with a variety of diagnoses including learning and attention problems, developmental disorders, genetic disorders and neurological deficits. The Center currently employs 11 clinicians (a child and adolescent psychiatrist, 2 neuropsychologists, 3 psych examiners, 2 speech pathologists, a psychotherapist, a social worker and a nurse practitioner) and sees over 200 patients per month with additional growth expected.

The Department of Pediatrics invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate or Full Professor level. Applications should possess a PhD and/or MD in a discipline related to the biology of Epigenetic phenomena and/or pediatrics. Preference will be given to applicants with an interdisciplinary research program involving epigenetics, genetics, bioinformatics, and perinatal disorders including the fetal origins of adult disease and prematurity. Outstanding candidates from related areas are also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant is expected to have a vigorous, well-established and externally funded research program at the associate or full professor level and a clearly outlined research career plan at the assistant professor level. CHIEF OF PEDIATRIC GASTROENTEROLOGY (October 2007)

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) and Children's Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) is seeking a Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology. UICOMP supports a thriving education program with approximately 20 categorical pediatric residents and 32 combined medicine-pediatrics residents. The Department of Pediatrics has 72 faculty members covering most pediatric subspecialties and primary care. CHOI is a 127-bed facility that offers over 50 pediatric programs and services. New Positions Open for: (2) Pediatric Clinical Geneticists (all ranks considered) and (2) Adult Clinical Geneticists (assistant / associate professor). The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has made the commitment for expansion of Medical Genetics activities in Arkansas. The University has established a new Division of Genetics in the College of Medicine with the goal of expansion towards the formation of a free-standing Department of Genetics within in the College. In addition, the Department of Pediatrics, has committed to significant expansion of the Section of Genetics and Metabolism at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
The current Genetics section has 2 clinical geneticists and 1 genetic counselor. UAMS has an independent Department of Genetic Counseling with 8 additional counselors. The section has close ties to the Arkansas Department of Health Newborn Screening Program and the Arkansas Birth Defects Center for Research and Prevention. Arkansas will be adding expanded newborn screening (MS/MS, CF, CAH) July 2008. Part of the expansion will be to meet the needs of the state with the introduction expanded screening. In addition Arkansas Children’s Hospital also has a treatment facility for lysosomal disorders.
The vision for expansion is a comprehensive program for clinical genetic activities to include patient care, participation on interdisciplinary teams, outreach (including telehealth), education interacting at all levels (students, residents, graduate students) for all UAMS colleges, and the establishment of a graduate program.
